Kawartha Headlines and News

Journalism is about getting it right through research! Then documenting, writing and presenting the news in an honest, ethical and unbiased fashion. Look around, can available sources live up to that moral test? "First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win." - Mahatma Gandhi

Important Issues

In the 2018 THERE IS NO MAYORAL CANDIDATE that seems to be running for jobs. They are both running to spend. One to build and spend on what won't help jobs. One on green issues and feel good projects that cost tax dollars and are already done by citizens. The sell and spend candidate is at least a one time cost whereas feel good policies cost you for eternity and only grow.

Neither is showing anything that will bring in jobs and tax dollars. The only one doing that is the province as the region is now a retirement area. That's a good thing! No new industries means the young must leave as the old move in. We don't need a mayor for affordable taxis like Uber or Lyft we simply need a motion and a council to approve that and enforce it with the Police Services Board or replace those members or remove that responsibility from their portfolio.

By all indications the SELL and SPEND crowd are going to win again because the alternative is TAX and SPEND.

Too Bad - So Sad. It REALLY is.

Peterborough Mayor claims political discussion is polarized - 2018-01-09, PTBO

The following Councillors voted (6 to 5) to sell Peterborough Electric Services to Ontario Hydro: Darrell Bennett, Dan McWilliams, Andrew Beamer, Henry Clarke, Lesley Parnell and Dave Haacke. This same group also voted against the wishes of the people and voted to continue the Parkway (6 to 5). Major projects should be held till Municipal election time so all can have their input.

If you don't believe in coincidence, the two projects each approach the hundred million dollar range. Selling one "could" pay for building the other. The airport "could" eat up another three million taxpayer dollars in 2018,

Polarization is expensive, when the ones holding the purse are polarized. This could be one of the reasons why new industry can't be attracted here.
Where are the competitive quotes for services we were told about?

Why does every project run over budget?
Why are they moving the works yard (now $23,000,000)?
If the works yard is moved for a new arena, that's an arena cost!
